HIGHER OCTANE PETROL

MOTOR UNION NOT TO TAKE ACTION

When the possibilities of obtaining petrol of higher octane rating were discussed by the executive of the South Island Motor Union last evening, Mr W. R. Carey recalled that the former Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr A. H. Nordmeyer) had told him: “If you want a higher octane rating you will get less petrol.” Mr G. W. Ferens: Because, it costs more. I believe it also comes from a dollar source. Mr G. Hamilton said that when an investigation had been made into octane rating overseas it was found that only one other country had a higher rating than New Zealand. The executive decided to inform the Automobile Association (Southland), which made an inquiry, that it did not feel able to take any action at present.
