CONVERSION OF BICYCLE Robert John Hawes, a seaman, aged 21, pleaded not guilty before Messrs W. T. Lester and F. H. Heal, Justices of the Peace, at the Lyttelton Magistrate’s Court yesterday, to converting to his own use a bicycle valued at £lO, the property of Douglas Henry Smith. Evidence was given by Constable N. J. Rutherford that he had seen the accused trying to mount the bicycle in Norwich quay, and had taken him into custody. Senior-Sergeant F. Hayhurst said that me taking and interfering with bicycles had become serious lately in Lyttelton, and bicycles taken had been recovered from various ships.
