KING LEOPOLD’S RETURN

Debate Suspended In Parliament

SOCIALISTS VOICE OPPOSITION (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright)

(Rec. 7 p.m.) BRUSSELS. July 8. Booing, jeering, and cat-calling Socialists to-night forced the suspension of the joint session of both Houses of the Belgian Parliament, called to vote on the return of King Leopold. The debate will be resumed next Tuesday. The Socialists promised more disturbances then.

Strikes in protest against King Leopold s return occurred throughout the French-speaking parts of the country. The Socialists are buying up stocks of toy whistles to blow in potest if King Leopold returns from his six-year exile.

• Leopold is expected to arrive in Brussels next week if the joint session repeals the Regency Act, which prevents his return.
