SEAMEN’S UNION IN AUSTRALIA

REFUSAL TO HANDLE ARMS FOR KOREA (Rec. 12.45 a.m.) SYDNEY, July 7. The Communist-controlled Federal executive of the Australian Seamen’s Union has decided that Australian merchant seamen will not transport w r ar materials to Korea. The executive’s resolution, which was released by the general secretary (Mr E. V. Elliott), said: “The Seamen’s Union condemns the dictatorial decision of the Federal Prime Minister (Mr Menzies), ordering Australian naval seamen to submit to orders from the United States in its blatant armed interference in the domestic affairs of the Korean people. “Australian merchant seamen will mobilise opposition to Mr Menzies, who aims to make Australia an American colony. The Korean people are entitled to decide their own destiny.”
