GOLF
SOUTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIP
WITHDRAWAL OF SEVERAL LEADING PLAYERS From Our Own Reporter GREYMOUTH, June 2. A poor field will take part in the two qualifying rounds for the South Island amateur golf championships which will begin on the Greymouth Club’s course to-morrow Travelling difficulties have caused the withdrawal of several leading players from different parts of the South Island. The course is in good order but is extremely heavy. Heavy floods during last week-end covered some holes completely and there have been no drying winds during the week. Because of the heavy conditions the committee decided this evening that placing would be necessary. Included in the field are D. L. Ween, A. H. Boyd (Otago), M. R. Blank and A. R. Blank (Christchurch). Local players are v/ell represented by L. Domigan, present holder of the course record of 71. four strokes better than the scratch score Other local players who are expected to play well are B. W. Caulton. J. Thomas, A. Smith, and D. Rhodes. H. Hill, a former Greymouth player, is also competing in the tournament.
TEMPLETON LADIES* CLUB A flag match played on Wednesday by members of the Templeton Ladies’ Golf Club was won by Mrs A Fulton.
