PRIVATE HOSPITAL COSTS
EVIDENCE TAKEN BY COMMITTEE (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. June 2. A committee appointed by the Government to investigate private hospital costs and the reason why private hospitals are closing, will conclude its sittings in Auckland to-day. The committee consists of Dr. Duncan Cook, of the Health Department, who is chairman, and Mr G. R. Lee, of Wellington. an accountant, and secretary of the Private Hospitals’ Association, and Mr Turner Smith, of Christchurch, a public accountant. They have taken evidence in committee. Dr. Cook said to-day that hospital licensees and their accountants had been questioned on hospital costs. Several private hospitals had also been inspected. A report will be made to the Minister of Health (Mr J. T. Watts) after the committee hears evidence in Dunedin, Christchurch, and Wellington.
