BRITISH PETROL SALES
SMALL INCREASE ON FREE MARKET (Rec. 9 p.m.) LONDON, June 2. According to the “Financial Times,” Britain’s action in freeing petrol from rationing has so far brought only a small increase in sales. This is reported by retailers throughout the country. A heavy demand was recorded on May 26, when the lifting of the restrictions was announced. The demand declined during the next two days, and by May 29 was only a little above normal. It is now believed that the initial rush resulted from an unsubstantiated public fear that garage stocks would be exhausted.
