COUNTRY GIRLS’ CLUBS
ANNUAL' CONFERENCE Girls from all over New Zealand will gather at Paraparaum”Beach next week for the second annual conference of the Federation of Country Girls’ Clubs. Fbrmed in August, 1948» the federation is a sister-body to the organisation catering for young farmers. It aims to give country women—particularly those in isolated areas—-new-interests and a better'knowledge of how to tackle everyday problems. This is done by means of lectures, demonstrations, tours, field days, and educational and instructional gatherings. The four-day conference will be opened by the federation president, Mrs W. J. .Fletcher, of Willowbridge, Waimate, and will include a sports meeting, discussions and debates on matters of interest to the clubs, a number of social functions, and a visit to Wellington to see places of interest. A highlight of the conference will be a debate with a team representing young farmers’ clubs. This will be held on June 8, under Mr T. D. H. Hall, former Clerk of the House of Representatives, who' will act as judge.
