AUSTRALIAN AID IN MALAYA
Transport Aircraft Squadron ANNOUNCEMENT BY MR MENZIES ’ (N.Z. Pres. l : Association—Copyright) (Rec. 10 p.m.) CANBERRA, May 31. The Federal Prime Minister (Mr Menzies) announced in the House of Representatives this afternoon that Australian aid to Malaya would include a transport squadron of Dakota aircraft for supply dropping and general service, complete with Australian crews and ground staff totalling 168 men. As well as that. Royal Air Force aircraft would be serviced in Australia. “The Government has recently had under consideration a request by the British Government for assistance in Malaya in the form of the provision of aircraft and crews, and in the servicing of aircraft of the Royal Air Force,” he said. “No request for other forms of military assistance has been made.
