Dunedin, and Christchurch competitions and who was one of the few in New Zealand to pass the practical L.R.S.M. in singing last year, has already shown great promise in the nine weeks in which she has been studying at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, according to information received recently. Her teacher of singing at the Conservatorium. Goossens, a Frenchwoman, stated recently that Miss Leckie’s voice was one of almost perfect tone. She withdrew her from the Grand Opera chorus, mentioning the fact that Miss Leckie. with further study, would be filling a solo part in Grand Opera. Miss Leckie. who studied French and German at the Southland Girls’ High School, and Italian from her former singing teacher. Mr James Simpson, is continuing‘her study of these languages.
