Major-General Keith Stewart, chief of the New Zealand General Staff, who arrived in London on May 20 to attend the annual conference and military exercises directed by the Chief of the Imperial General Staff (Field-Marshal Sir William Slim) is now visiting military establishments and discussing supply and other questions with the War Office. He expects to fiy back to New Zealand on June 9.—London, May 31. Mr P. R. Angus, chief mechanical engineer of the New Zealand Railways since 1931, retired this week on superannuation after 40 years’ service. During the 19 years he had been head of the department’s mechanical engineering branch, Mr Angus had done much to equip the railways for the heavy traffic now being handled and his modern designs of locomotives, rail-cars and rolling stock are well known in New Zealand and overseas. . He will be replaced by Mr J. Binstead. (P.A.) I Mr L. T. Aitchison, who for the last 1 10 years has been manager of the Can- ! terbury branch of Ihe Vacuum Oil , Company, Ptv„ Ltd., has been appointed to a position in the company’s head office in Wellington. Mr Aitchison will leave on Tuesday for an extensive i visit to Australia before taking up his i new position. Mr I. H. Nimmo, of Wellington, has been appointed to succeed [Mr Aitchison.
