PRIVATE SCHOOL FEES

POSSIBLE- INCREASES Most private schools in Christchurch have recently had to consider raising their fees because of increases in costs. The lifting of subsidies has made the need for higher fees in many cases an urgent one. There have been recent increases in fees at Christ s College and St. Andrew’s College, and an increase in fees for boarding pupils at St. Bede’s College hag been discussed and is considered necessary. The amount of the increase at St. Bede’s College will not be fixed until authoritative figures on increased costs have been compiled. The board of managers of the Rangi-ruru Girls’ School has contemplated an increase in fees for boarders. but no decision has yet been made, according to the bursar (Mr J. L. Kerr). An increase might be necessary at St. Margaret’s College, said the bursar (Mr E. P. Wills), The position had not yet been discussed by the board, he said. The secretary of the Schools’ Board of Governors said that neither the board nor the individual school boards had considered the position yet. When figures were available to indicate the extent of the increased costs, there would probably be a move to increase boarding fees, he said.
