ATOM BOMB OUTPUT

U.S. Said To Be Parsimonious

WAR WITH SOVIET FEARED (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright)

(Rec. 8 p.m.) WASHINGTON, May 29. The United States was spending money on too small a scale in the development of atomic bombs, said Senator Brien McMahon, chairman of the joint Congressional Atomic Energy Committee, to-day. Senator McMahon said he feared that the atomic race between the United States and the Soviet Union might eventually lead to war, with free enterprise in the United States becoming less free as the race continued. Senator McMahon repeated his suggestion that the United States should spend 50.000.000.000 dollars over five years for aid to all countries.

The aid would be contingent on all nations accepting effective international control of atomic energy, and reducing their armaments expenditure by two-thirds.
