NEW ROAD TO NORTH

WORK AT CRANFORD STREET Th® date of completion of the Main Highways Board’s section of the new northern outlet from Christchurch is still indefinite. TTie contract for placing the shingle fill across the length from Tutton’s road to Mclvor’s corner, on the Main North road, is well in hand, but Ministry of Works engineer# will have to study the behaviour of the fill, overlying a considerable depth of peat in water, before the road is sealed and opened for traffic. This section joins the Cram ord street extension, being constructed by the City Council. All the preliminary work, such as the construction of culverts and sewers has been done. All that remains is the road construe* tion.

“It is a clear 'go’ from now on. said the city engineer (Mr E. Somers) yesterday.
