ORDER OF ST. JOHN

NEW WORKSHOPS AND GARAGE Extra facilities for maintaining the St. John Ambulance Brigade’s vehicles are contained in the new garage and workshops erected by the Order of St. John recently. The building is on a site behind the order’s buildings in Peterborough street and has been in operation since March 1 of this year. The building covers an area of 1350 square feet. Among the facilities provided are a new hydraulic hoist and compressor, and strip lighting for night work. Skylights and windows provide natural light for day work. The workshop has a board floor and is free from draughts. A steel top bench runs the full length of the workshop and all tools are arranged on a shadow board.

Attached to the building is an office for the transport officer, and an intercommunication system links the workshop with the main building and the drivers’ quarters.

Previously all repairs had to be done in the main garage, said the secretary of the order ( Commander C. H. KersIcy) yesterday, and to effect repairs on the vehicles the mechanics were working under great difficulties. The new hydraulic hoist and the other facilities embodied in the new building would eliminate all that, he said.
