OFFICIAL STATEMENT REGARDING THE POWER SITUATION To clarify the position in the minds of the public, the following information is given: 1. The recent rain in the catchment area has TEMPORARILY eased the position to the extent that the recent rationing system is meanwhile suspended. 2. The public must realise that the supply authorities, The Municipal Electricity Department, are STILL REQUIRED TO KEEP POWER CONSUMPTION WITHIN THE SAME LIMITS AS IN 1949. 3. If we are to effectively proceed through the Winter without Power Cuts, the UTMOST ECONOMY IS CALLED FOR BY DOMESTIC, INDUSTRIAL, and COMMERCIAL USERS. 4. The response to the recent restrictions showed that the public of Christchurch is fully aware of the position. Public \ goodwill and co-operation are still called for and are vitally necessary. Signed L. G. AMOS, Chairman, Electricity Committee, Christchurch City Council.
