SYMPATHISERS WITH COMMUNISTS

“ 3500 IN SINGAPORE ” (Rec. 9 p.m.) SINGAPORE, May 27 There are not more than 3500 Communist sympathisers in Singapore, and support for the Communists is steadily waning, according' to the Colony’s police authorities. The Deputy-Commissioner of the Singapore Police (Mr R. C. Wiltshire) said that reports of difficult conditions in Communist-held country have led to diminution of local interest in the Communists. Mr Wiltshire explained that the estimate of 10,000 Communist sympathisers in Singapore made in the Colony’s latest administration report was based on the crowds which attended Communist-inspired meetings before an emergency was proclaimed in 1948.
