AUSTRALIAN LAMB PRICES
Prices for lambs look high at Addington, but they are beggarly compared with those at Newmarket, the main Melbourne supply centre, at the beginning of last month. The entry at the sale reported in a Melbourne exchange was 25.000, but was 5600 smaller than that of the week before. The demand was keen, the report says. Prices are quoted as: prime heavy lambs 80s to 88s. with top prices up to 935, medium 72s to 80s. and light 63s to 68s. Prime light lambs were worth 19d to 21d per lb on the hoof, medium 18d to 20d, and heavy 17d to 19d. Prime light wethers at the same sale brought lid to 12d per lb. and two-tooths to 13d. Store sheep prices were: two-tooth crossbred ewes, good, running with Southdown rams, 655; three and four-year Romney cross ewes running with Romney rams. 60s; young Romney-Corriedale cross wethers 765.
