CENTENNIAL APPEAL

£42,000 PROMISED BY FIRMS LOCAL BODIES’ DONATIONS i REACH £43,000 Citizens and firms in Canterbury had so far promised £42,904 10s to the Canterbury centennial appeal launched in February by the finance committee of the Centennial Association, said the chairman (Mr W. S. Mac Gibbon), last evening. This was almost double the amount which had been promised by March 10, when the total was £21,710. Of the local bodies’ quota of £50,000, more than £43.000 had been promised to date, said Mr Mac Gibbon, and he fully expected that the committee’s objective would be reached. The fund is to be used in financing the centennial celebrations and the centennial memorial the Canterbury Museum.
