LAKES STORAGE FALLS M.E.D. AREA WITHIN ALLOCATION Further deterioration in the storage of water for. electricity for the South Island main system was recorded yesterday. Although .95in of rain fell on Wednesday at The Hermitage, the weather in the Alps yesterday was overcast and calm without further rain. The increase in the flow by 115 cusecs of the Harper river was no contribution to the storage, as Lake Coleridge had fallen slightly. The level of Lake Pukaki was the same as on Wednesday, but Lakes Monowai and Mahinerangi fell. With 2.414.400 units generated for the 24 hours, the total storage at 9 a.m. yesterday was 85,050.000 units. The Waitaki river had a flow of 4744 cusecs. The consumption in the M.E.D. area since Monday has been slightly within the allocation by the State Hydroelectric Department.
