MR R. M. ALGIE’S VIEWS

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 25. “In New Zealand, by an historical accident, the Church is to all intents and purposes excluded from the schools and I think that for our lifetime, unhappily, it will remain so.” said the Minister of Education (Mr R. M Algie) addressing the Auckland Chamber of Commerce to-day. Mr Algie was emphasising the need for co-operation in home, school, and Church in developing the country’s youth. “If we are a Christian community, I would think that the central truth of our lives must be Christian ethics and if education is the pursuit of truth, how does it come about that we have an education system that omits all direct reference to fundamental truth?
