BRITISH GOLF TOURNAMENT

TWO CROONERS BEATEN IN FIRST ROUND LONDON, May 23. Both Bing Crosby, the American crooner, and Donald Peers, a wellknown English crooner, were beaten in their first-round matches in the British amateur goif championships at St. Andrews yesrerday. Crosby, after winning the first three holes, was beaten by Janes Wilson, 3 and 2. Peers was beaten by a Scot. C. L. Muir, at the nineteenthThirty photographers met Crosby as he ieft the clubhouse for the first tee. Crosby was escorted by two policemen, an honour only once previously provided for a player—the great Bobby Jones.
