TRIBUTES PAID TO COMMISSIONER

GUEST AT CHRISTCHURCH POLICE SOCIAL A social was held at the Christchurch Central Police Station last evening in honour of the Commissioner of Police (Mr J. Bruce Young) and Mrs Young, who arrived from Wellington yesterday morning. It was attended by country, suburban, and city members of the force and the programme was arranged by the Police Social Club. Mr T. E. Holmes (Superintendent of Police at Christchurch) presented Mr and Mrs Young with an inscribed silver tea service, a gift from the members of the force in the Christchurch Police District. The social was held to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs Young, an opportunity members did not have when Mr Young, then Superintendent at Christchurch, was appointed Commissioner in April, and also to mark that appointment. said Mr Holmes. He paid tribute to Mr Young’s ability as a police officer, spoke of his career in the force, and said that all ranks were confident of his success as Commissioner. Tributes were also paid and good wishes expressed by Inspector G. H. L. Holt, for the uniform branch, and by Chief Detective F. J. Brady. Mr Young acknowledged'the gift and expressions of goodwill.
