OFFICIAL FORECASTS “The Press” Special Service WELLINGTON. May 23. The weather forecast for Canterbury , Issued at 9 p.m. by the Meteorological | Office. Wellington, and dealing with the 20 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Situation: an anti-cyclone is centred east of the North Island, and cold fronts are advancing across the Tasman Sea towards the South Island. Forecast to 5 p.m.: fresh north-west winds near the coast: north-westerlies increasing in exposed inland districts; weather, fair to cloudy, and milder. Further outlook: fair. WEST COAST The following is the forecast for Lie West Coast of the South Island:— Moderate east to north winds; weather overcast, with some occasional rain, chiefly south of Westport. Further outlook: rain at times. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The day in Christchurch yesterday was fine, with a fresh easterly. The maximum temperature was 53.7 degrees. At midnight the sky was clear, and there was a light wind from the northeast. The temperature was 48.2 degrees. The barometer, at 2‘.».974in (1015 millibars), was falling unsteadily.
