REQUESTS TO BE MADE TO GOVERNMENT (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 23. A request that sick pay to members of lodges in New Zealand received from their societies be not regarded as income for social security and pension purposes will be made by the Dominion Council of Friendly Societies in an approach to the Cabinet. This was decided at the annual meeting of the council in Wellington. The Government is also to be asked to advise societies of its intentions about medical and pharmaceutical benefits for their members under the social security scheme. The council decided to seek legislation to permit the formation of deposit friendly societies in New Zealand on the lines provided by the British Friendly Societies Act. The next conference will be held in Timaru. The following officers were elected: president, Mr C. G. Eaker (Timaru); senior vice-president, Mr T. Haberfield (Christchurch); junior vicepresident, Mr A. E. Mettam (Auckland); secretary-treasurer, Mr W. G. Carpenter (Christchurch); committee, Messrs M. Breignan, W. B. Brown, J. T. Carr, R. J. Mathers. L. J. T. Retallick, G. F. Rudkin, and J. L. Stewart (all of Wellington).
