MOTOR VEHICLE RELICENSING

USE OF WENTWORTH NEXT MONTH

There will be no provision for the relicensing of motor-vehicles in the evenings of the special relicensing period next month, said a statement issued yesterday by an officer of the Chief Post Office. Great difficulty had been experienced, he said, in securing special accommodation for the purpose, and use of the Wentworth in Hereford street had been gained on the condition that it was vacated each evening. Because relicensing would accordingly be restricted, the officer emphasised that motorists should attend to relicensing as soon as possible after the special premises were opened.

Relicensing will commence at the Chief Post Office on June 1. but on June 6 business will be transferred to the Wentworth where a specially augmented staff will be in attendance to deal with the expected heavy volume of business. Hours will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Number plates at present on motorvehicles will be retained for the ne.v licensing period, but new stickers which will be black on a white background. must be affixed to vehicles by July 1. Applications for relicensing may be made through suburban post offices. The stickers can th?n be picked up at the same office at a later date. Licensing charges will be the same as last vear. except that there will be some alterations in the insurance premiums payable on certain classes of vehicles. Details of these alterations are not yet available.
