The Deputy-Leader of the Opposition (Mr W. Nash) arrived in Christchurch from Wellington by air yesterday afternoon. Last evening he addressed a public meeting at Upper Piccarton, and this evening he will address a private meeting of the Ric-carton-Selwyn Labour Representation Committee. To-morrow evening Mr Nash will speak at a public meeting in Rangiora. and on Thursday evening he will speak at a public meeting in Christchurch under the auspices of the North Canterbury and Riccarton-Sel-wyn Labour Representation Committees and the Canterbury Trades Council of the Federation of Labour.

Mr H. L. Bockett, secretary of the Labour Department and Director of Employment, left Wellington yesterday for Geneva, where he will be a New Zealand representative at the International Labouf Conference. Mr K. McL. Baxter and Mr W A. Fox. the trade union delegates to the conference, expect to leave by am next Monday.—(P.A.)

Mr H. S. Malcolm, manager for New Zealand of the Royal Exchange Assurance, the Southern Union General Insurance Company, and the New Zealand Plate Glass Insurance Company, will retire on superannuation as from June 1 this year after 46 years’ service. The court of directors has appointed as his successor Mr K. W. Millage, Of London.—(P.A.)
