PEACE CAMPAIGN IN BURMA
THAKIN NU CONFIDENT OF SUCCESS (Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON, May 20. The Burmese Prime Minister (Thakin Nu) said in London to-day he was confident th?t peace would be restored in Burma by July 1° —the target dare of his “peace, within one year” campaign. He added that he would then give up politics and become a Buddhist monk. He said that the recapture of Prome, a Communist stronghold, following th? recapture of Toungoo, one of the main resistance centres of the Karen i insurgents, meant that almost all the important towns seized by the rebels | had been retaken. Thakin Nu came to Britain to attend the Westminster Abbey service in memory of Commonwealth servicemen who died in the Burma cam-
paigns.
