SEARCH AND RESCUE ORGANISATION
GOVERNMENT APPROVAL AWAITED (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. May 20. A search and rescue organisation linking the police, marine, post and telegraph, civil aviation and military services, amateur radio operators and mountain clubs, all controlled by a committee under Air Force chairmanship. now awaits official approval by Cabinet. Reporting that a draft plan for the organisation had been completed. Mr L. D. Bridge to-day told the annual meeting of the Federated Mountain Clubs of New Zealand that perfect functioning of search and rescue work was assured in future for any part of the country. The various parties in the link-up wore prepared to assume th' r robs whenever called upon Haphazard organisation in emergencies was a thing of the past. Although on recent occasions eloments of the now organisation had proved effective enough in an unpolished state, efficiency would bo greatly increased when the Gnvernnrv'nt stamped it with its approval.
