CAR PASSENGERS INJURED

VEHICLE LEAVES ROAD AND OVERTURNS WOMAN AND SON FLOWN TO HOSPITAL (New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, May 21. Unfavourable weather yesterday stopped what promised to be a dramatic night flight from Queenstown to Taieri or Invercargill with two persons badly injured in a motor accident at Kinloch, at the head of Lake Wakatipu. The injured were Mrs Constance Bryant, ol Kinloch, and her young son, Richard. They were travelling in a car driven by Mr Bryant, whicn went off the road and turned over. An emergency call was put through to the Southern Scenic Air Trips, Ltd., and Mr F. J. Lucas flew an Auster aircraft to Routeburn and took the two injured aboard. Both were admitted to the Frankton Hospital. Arrangements were made with the authorities at Taieri aerodrome to have a flare path ready so Mr Lucas could land after dark. The weather changed for the worse when he arrived back to Frankton at dusk, and a decision was made to fly to Invercargill. Similar arrangements were made for a flare path, but the weather was again unfavourable for the flight. The medical authorities decided that the two injured should stay at the Frankton hospital. MAN STRUCK BY CAR DEATH IN HOSPITAL (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 21. A man who was struck by a car on the Great South road near Papakura on Friday night suffered injuries from which he died in hospital on Saturday night. He was: Peter Cook, also known as Patrick Murphy, aged about 35, a barman of Vincent street. TRACTOR DRIVER DIES FROM INJURIES PINNED BENEATH MACHINE (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. May 21. A man received injuries from which he later died when a tractor he was driving on a farm at Pukekawa, about eight miles from Tuakau. overturned and pinned him beneath it on Saturday afternoon. He was: Howard Channell, aged 40. of Pukekawa. Channell was sent to the Middlemore Hospital, where he died early this morning. One man was killed and two others were injured on Saturday night when a motor-car struck a passenger bus just south of Waihola.
