THEFT OF ALTAR VASES
'. MAN SENT TO GAOL FOR TWO MONTHS (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 20. j When John Hopkins was try|irig to sell four brass vases in Albert |igttreet last evening, he declined to tell |< constable where he got them. How-
ever, inquiries showed thai the vases, valued at £3, had been stolen from the altar of the Epsom Roman Catholic, Church. Hopkins, a labourer, aged 39, pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’s Court to-day to the theft. The police said Hopkins had 28 previous convictions. Hopkins asked the Magistrate (Mr H. Jenner Wily, S.M.) for another chance, saying he had not been in trouble for a long time. “You have had your chance,” the Magistrate said, in sentencing Hopkins to two months’ imprisonment.
