CANTERBURY CAR CLUB
H. GREEN BREAKS CLUB RECORD The Canterbury Car Club held a series of acceleration tests over a semi-circular course at McCormack’s Bay on Saturday afternoon. H. Green, driving his Wolse-ley-R.A., made fastest time, and broke the club record by four seconds. Green's best time was 26.14 seconds, giving a mean speed for the standing half-mile of 69.73 miles an hour. Green's brother, G. Green, made second fastest time, also in the red Wolseley. On his last run he lost forward speed at the first bend, and the car skidded back facing the way it had come. Only its low centre of gravity kept the car from overturning. W. Lee was not in Christchurch on Saturday to drive his 560 c.c. CoopcrJ.A.P. His brother. J. Lee. made one or two fairly fast runs in the Cooper, but it was evident that he prefers to confine himself to tuning the car's dirt-track motor-cycle engine. Miss Nola Blackbum, driving her • ■ r s Buick 8 saloon, had a severe shaking when the heavy car power-slid round the first corner and went backwards over the edge of the road into the muddipart of the bay.
