KENNETT CUP RACE
The exceptionally low standard of Christchurch harneis was reveaieu on Saturday, whan tne Kennett Cup steeplechase was run at Riccarton racecourse, lhe visiting Dunedin Ciubs, and Civil iserv.ce, took first and second places in the cams' event, sharing tne first eUht individual plaemgs between them, 'inese teams scored 17 and 19 points respectively as against Christchurch’s 68 for third place. The race oi slightly more than two laps of the racecourse was won by W. H. Neisoa (Civil Service), in 17min 43sec, just 23 seconds s ower than his winning time last year under less favourable conditions. Nelson led by several yards at t.ie end of the first quarter-imle. and s eadily increased his lead to finish lOu yards clear. Aii innovation this year was the senior B i.r--de race which was won by R. V. Lico.l. \V. A. Kennedy, B. Evars, and Ni.cll, all O; Christchurch, were early 1 adrrs. Nicol 1 cleared out from his teammates over the last lap to win by 80 yards. \v:th a mile and three-quarters covered in t.-.e junior race, P. N. Siddon (Ci versham), running strongly, led from E- Dingwall (Baptist; and B. R. Summerfield (Christchurch). Siddon incre.sed his lead, finally winning by 70 yards from Inn .wail, with Shepherd (Anglican) third, another 130 yards back. Results:— InaividuaL—Senior A: W. H.
