MARKETING OF SMALL SEEDS
MISSION TO BRITAIN SUGGESTED
To work out a long-term agreement covering the marketing of peas and small seeds a delegation headed, if possible, by the Minister of Agriculture (Mr K. J. Holyoake). with a representative of merchants and a representative of growers should be seal: to Britain, said the nresident (Mr G. C Warren) at the annual conference of the agricultural section of the North Canterbury district of Federated Farmers yesterday. Mr Warren expressed dissatisfaction with the marketing of New Zealand small seeds and peas in Britain. He said that although in recent years deals in New Zealand meat and dairy produce had been mad? which were most favourable to Britain, she had not shown any inclination to recipro-* cate m any degree with the Dominion s small .seeds. “For too long now the export of seeds to England has been most unsatisfactory. and the matter has now been intensified by the position tha" nas arisen over the export of peas ” he said.
The Gram. Seed, and Produce Merchants’ Association had done its best to rectify the position relating tn peas, said Mr Warren, but its action only dealt with the immediate position—a long-term agreement with Britain was wanted.
