SCENIC ATTRACTIONS IN SOUTH ISLAND
“WILL BE UTILISED IN TOURIST CAMPAIGN”
It was possible for the South Island to receive more than half of the amount expended on tourist advertising, but he could not tie down his department on this question, said the Minister in Charge of Tourist and Health Resorts (Mr F. W. Doidge) in a letter to the South Island Local Bodies’ Association.
“Both my department and myself are aware of the superlative scenic attractions existing in the South Island and propose to utilise them to the fullest extent in the campaign to attract more tourists to New Zealand,” Mr Doidge said. , “You can rest assured that we are determined to proceed with plans for establishing the tourist industry in New Zealand on a wide and sound basis.”
Tourist funds were not specifically allocated for the benefit of any particular locality, but rather with the object of advertising New Zealand’s tourist attractions as a whole, Mr Doidge said.
