RECORD LAMB KILL IN SIGHT

EXPORT MEAT KILLINGS 9170 TONS UP Lamb killings continue buoyant, and are now 225,000 ahead of last season and 77,000 ahead of the corresponding period for the 1947-48 season, when a record kill of 11,956,279 was achieved. There is, therefore, a possibility that for the first time an export kill of 12,000,000 lambs will be reached, the Meat Board reports. The increase of 9170 tons of export meat to date is well spread over all Export killings from October 1, 1949, to April 29, 1950. with the corresponding figures for the previous season in parentheses, are:—■ North Island: lambs 5,786.649 (5,653,918); wethers 482,774 ((387,838); ewes 1,142,427 (1,327,808); beef (qrs.) 268,490 (237.916); pigs 190,240 (189.027). South Island: lambs 4,956,674 (4,864,242); wethers 40,207(28,210); ewes 673,449 (594,219); beef, 13,461 (12,848); pigs 4350 (4839). Dominion: lambs 10,743.323 (10,518,160); wethers 522,981 (416,048); ewes 1,815,876 (1,922,027): beef, 281,951 (250,764); pigs 194,590(193,866). Average killing weights to date, with comparative figures for last season in parenthesis, are:—• North Island: lambs 34.341 b (35.36), wethers 61.16,(60.27) ewes 56.74 (56.71); South Island: lamb 35.961 b (35.74); wethers 54.61 (52.46); ewes 55.14 (54.62). Dominion: lambs 35.081 b (35.54): wethers 60.66 (59.74); ewes 56.15 (56.06).
