—•— ' APPLICATION BY GENERAL DIVISION DISALLOWED (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 19. The Railways Industrial Tribunal by a majority decision to-day disallowed an application for travelling allowances at the rate and in the manner prescribed for members of the salaried division to be anplied to members of the general division. The workers’ representative (Mr E. A. Whitlow) in a dissenting opinion said: “In my opinion. Whenever similar circumstances exist, a reasonable rate for travelling allowances should be defined and established on a common basis for all employees as requested in the claim.” The tribunal in another decision granted leading hands in penmanehtway gangs l|d an hour extra when left in charge of gangs or when it 18 necessary for a ganger to be absent for four hours or more in any one day. MR WHITLOW REFUBSES NOMINATION / (New Zealand Press AssociatioinY, WELLINGTON, May 19. Mr E. A. Whitlow, of Auckland; has informed the Minister of Railways (Mt W. S. Goosman) that he does not intend to accept nomination for membership of the Government Railway* Tribunal for a third term of three years from May 31 next. Mr Whitlow has been the railway employees’ representative on the tribunal for the last five ybars. He Was reappointed in 194? for his second term, which will expiine » the end of this month. Mr Whitlow said he had bee;ti requested by each of the four railway unions to accept their nomination for a third term, but found himself enable to do so because of pressure <» other duties.
