U.S. LEGATION IN BUCHAREST
DEMAND FOR BIG REDUCTION
CHANGE BY RUMANIAN GOVERNMENT
(Rec. 8 p.m.) WASHINGTON, May 18. Rumania to-day demanded that the United States should reduce the staff of the American Legation in Bucharest by about half.
A Note to the State Department called for reducing the staff of 19 to 10 persons.
It renewed charges that some Americans had taken part in spying against the Communist regime. The United States last month, required Rumania to close its commercial attache office in New York. Earlier Rumania had forced the suspension of operations by the United States Information Service in Bucharest.
