DEPUTY HIGH COMMISSIONER

MR A. F. MORLEY’S APPOINTMENT

I ARRIVAL IN NEW ZEALAND TO-DAY 1 Mr Alexander Francis Morley, C.8.E., who has been appointed Deputy High Commissioner for the United Kingdom in New Zealand, will arrive at Wellington this morning in the Wanganella.

Mr Morley, who is 42 years old, was educated at Rugby School and Queen’s College. Oxford. He was appointed to the India Office in 1930. and from 1933 to 1936 was private secretary to the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for India. Later he was secretary to various delegations sent by the Government of India to international conferences. From 1940 to 1942 he served in the Ministry of Civil Aviation. In 1945

he moved to the Burma Office, with the rank of assistant secretary, and was later transferred to the Commonwealth Relations Office.

He served as adviser to the Lord Privy Seal (Lord Addison) from 1947 to early in 1949, and up to his appointment as Deputy High Commissioner for New Zealand was the head of one of the departments in the Commonwealth Relations Office that deals with economic affairs. He was awarded the C.B.E. in the 1948 New Year honours list. He is a married man and has a child aged six.
