AVON CLUB The Avon Amateur Cycling Club held a 15-mile race at Harewood on Saturday. New members of. the club, although they did not succeed in securing places, performed well. Landrebe (4imin), 40min 34 2-ssec, I: T. Gibbs (31min), 39min 34 2-ssec, 2; K. Radburnd (4imin), 40min 34 2-ssec, 3; J. Turnbull, 4; P. Wylie, 5; D. Borrell, 6. Fastest time: L. Johnson (scr), 37min 17 4-ssec. Second fastest: J. Faulkner (lmin), 38min 40sec. PAPANUI CLUB The Papanui Cycling Club held its first race since 1941, when it went into recess. The race was at Harewood, over a 10mile course, on Saturday. Results were:—R. Keeting (2min) 1, R. Breach (2min) 2, W. Smith (2min) 3, G. Marks 4, K. Cattertnole 5, R. Cattermole 6, M. Cattermole 7. Fastest time was registered by R. Keeting, who completed the course in 28min 7sec; second fastest time was gained by R. Breach in 28min 7 l-ssec. CHRISTCHURCH CASH CLUB The Christchurch Cash Cycling Club opened its road racing season on Saturday with a 10-mile race at Halswell, F. Chapman rode well to win by a clear margin. K. Sutherland was too strong for the rest of the scratch men, and he rode away from them to gain fastest time by 7sec from Chapman. There were 20 starters, and R. Sutherland, K. Sutherland, S. Weir, F. Leatham, and B. Froggatt conceded a start of 2min to a bunch of five, including F. Johnson, who was on a sealed handicap. Results- .were:— F. Chapman, Jmin. 26min Isec, 1; G. Stack (2min), 27min 33sec, 2: R. Wlldermoth' (2min), 27min 33 1-ssec, 3; K. Sutherland (scr), 25min 54sec, 4; A. Howlson (lmin), 26min 54sec, 5; R. Woodgate (2min), 27min ,55sec, 6.
