PIONEER CLUB’S RACES AT WAIMAIRI The Pioneer Motor-cycle Sports Club held a series of beach races Over a twomiles course at Waimairi on Saturday. Racing conditions were excellent, and there was a moderate attendance. Results : Two-stroke machines, 1 lap: G. Dennison (Excelsior) 1, E. Beckett (Villiers) 2, R. Mason (Francis-Barnett) 3. PYRAMID VALLEY TRIAL Seventeen riders took part in the Pioneer Sports Club’s Pyramid Valley sporting trial for the Laurenson Cup yesterday. The trial marked the opening of the club’s winter season. The course of 110 miles led thiough Kaiapoi, Amberley, turned off into the foothills, where the Waipara river had to be forded, through the Pyramid Valley to Waikari, and back to Christchurch by way of Weka Pass. There was one timed section of 34 miles which riders had to complete in one hcur and a quarter, being allowed a tolerance of only three minutes. Sixteen observed sections, where the courses were marked by 'flags, included creeks, riverbeds, steep gullies, and greasy mud. which tested me competitors’ balance and throttle control to’ the full. Many points were lost here. Results:— W. Rush. 347 c.c. Matchless, 49 points lost. 1; W. Coleman, 125 c.c. Francis-Bar-, nett, 71 2; B. MacKenzie, 347 c.c. Royal: ! Enfield, 73, 3.
