JUNIOR NATIONAL PARTY
N.Z. CONFERENCE PLANNED
I Before the annual conference of the I New Zealand National Party meets : m Christchurch on July 10 and 11 [delegates from junior branches of the party will meet in conference on Saturday, July 8, and remits and suggestions from this meeting will go lorward for the consideration of the senior organisation. This was reported to the annual rally of the Canterbury Division of the Junior National Party O n Saturday. One hundred delegates from branches from Waimate to Cheviot were present at the raxly. which was officially opened by the chairman of the Canterbury senior division (Mr E. B. E. Taylor). A scheme for an interchange of visits between members of the Young Liberal Party in Australia and the Junior National Party of New Zealand came before the rally, and will be further considered at the Dominion conference in July. It is proposed that the interchange should be annual. In the first year two young men from each country would visit the other country, and in the following year the interchange should be between young women members The .rally approved the erection of an alpine hut with accommodation for 24. It is estimated to cost about £6OO A sub-committee, with Mr A. Hollander as convener was set up to proceed with the project It was reported that in the national debating contest for the Westminster Shield the Selwyn Urban branch, the South Island finalists, represented by Messrs W. Smith (leader). A. Gordon and G. Mcßeath. would meet Masterton in the New Zealand final in Wellington on May 27. Officers were elected as follows: chairman. Mr G. N. Bowron; deputy divisional rural chairman. Mr D. G. Gerard: deputy divisional urban chairman. Mr C. Evans; minute secretary., Miss V. Arker; editor of “Ac- I t ion.’Mr R. H. Bowron: chairman of debating committee. Mr M. Vile: chairman of organising committee, Mr W. R. Harris; junior delegate to the senior ivisional executive. Mr G N. Bowron: junior delegate on the senior divisional organisation committee. Mr W. R. Harris; liaison officer. Mr J. Paterson. A presentation was made to Mr Paterson by Mr Harris. A dance was held on Saturday evening and the rally concluded yesterday with a picnic at Kairaki beach
