Centennial Funds
The statement (printed to-day) by t the Mayor of Christchurch, Mr E. ! r H. Andrews, that contributors to! t the centennial funds may direct 1 j, that the money be specifically ap- 1 t
plied to the memorial project of rebuilding the Canterbury Museum, should remove misunderstanding. The need for such a statement was shown by the remarks of Mr H. Kitson at a meeting of the Canterbury Museum Trust Board on Thursday. It is true, as the Mayor says, that the final balance from the centennial celebrations, which may be substantial, will be used for the museum; but there are many persons in Canterbury who would prefer their contributions to go direct to the museum fund. They would not like the museum to be, as Mr Kitson suggested it might be, “ the remainder-man ‘ after the athletics and fireworks ‘ have been paid for The assurance that their wishes will be 'espected should help the centenlial finance committee to collect he remainder of the £ 130,000 it s seeking from the people of Can;erbury.
