The weather forecast for Canterbury Issued at 9 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 20 hburs following the time of issue, is as follows: Situation: anti-cyclones centred over the South Tasman Sea and the Chatham Islands extend over New Zealand. Forecast to 5 p.m. Saturday: light to variable winds. Cloudy on the coast, with local fog or drizzle. Fair inland after clearance of early morning fog. Temperatures moderate. Further outlook: little change. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Light and variable or easterly winds. Weather fair to fine, with moderate temperatures. Further outlook: similar conditions. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather in Christchurch yesterday was fine and mild, with light south-west winds. The maximum temperature was 65.2 degrees. At midnight the sky was cloudy and there was a very light south-west wind. The temperature was 50.3 degrees. The barometer, at 30.405 inches (1029.6 millibars), was falling.
