Sir James Shelley, until recently Director of the New Zealand Broadcasting Service, has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.— London, March 15. Mr G. Nevill has been appointed a stipendiary magistrate to exercise criminal ana civil jurisdiction in the Chatham Islands, states last evening’s Gazette.—(P.A.) Mr E. H. Perry, of Christchurch, was elected District Governor for the ensuing year at the annual conference of the Fortieth District Rotary Clubs in Wellington yesterday. The Fortieth District incorporates New Zealand south of Pahiatua. —(P.A.). Messrs R. O. Cuthbert (Christchurch) and G. J. Phillips (Darfield) have been admitted to membership of the New Zealand Society of Accountants as associate registered accountants. Mr J. H. Griffiths, of Christchurch, has been granted a transfer of status to a fellow public accountant, and Messrs ,M. G. Petrie and G. W. Ward have been granted transfers of status to fellow registered accountants. Mr I. A. R. Stedeford, chairman and managing' director of Tube Investments, Ltd., a large British engineering group, will arrive at Auckland to-day on a visit to New Zealand. He will arrive in Christchurch on a short visit on March 21.

Mr S. C. Andrews,. president of the New Zealand Photo Process Engravers’ Federation, and Mr R. T. Alston, secretary of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association, will leave for Nelson to-da; r to attend the federation’s annual conference.
