IMPORT LICENSING
EFFECT OF RISING COSTS (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, March' 9. The Auckland Manufacturers’ Association expresses in a circular concern at the effect' rising costs of imported raw materials have on quantities that may be, imported within the set monetary value of the licensing schedule; Th? association reports that many applications to the Customs Department for additional licences have arisen through this cause. The secretary, Mr J. R. Don, says that the association pointed out to the Con-, troller of Customs that obviously, to maintain the level of imports, licences in excess of the schedule would have to be granted. The reply was, "as always, not at all definite. At this juncture the matter will not be pressed further, but in any cases that may arise of shortages of licences, particular emphasis should be laid in applications on the evidence of insufficiency of value of the licence to cover normal production requirements,” Mr Don adds.
