U.S. REPUBLICAN PARTY
BASIS OF POLICY FOR ELECTIONS
OPPOSITION TO “ PLANNED ECONOMY ” (Rec. 9 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Feb. 6. The Republican Party to-day charged the Truman Administration with seeking “a planned economy modelled on the Socialist Governments of Europe.” The Republicans, in a statement of the principles and objectives' which will form the basis of their campaign in the November Congressional elections. said the major domestic issue was “liberty against socialism.”
Referring to foreign affairs, the statement said the party deplored the tragic consequences of the Yalta and Potsdam secret agreements. It added: “We favour a foreign policy in which all Americans, regardless of party, will join to assure peace with justice in a free world.”
The statement deplored “the dangerous degree to which Communists and fellow-travellers have been employed in important Government costs, and the fact that information vital tn security has been made available to alien agents and persons of questionable loyalty.”
