EMPIRE GAMES BOWLING

Sir,—l notice by reports that the attendances at the bowling tests at the Empire Games were barely more than at an ordinary club match. If ever there was a joke for Empire Games surely this is it. There can be no doubt about the enthusiasm of the bowling fraternity, who know to a man that it is possible to return to their own club, wherever it may be, and get beaten first time out or any time. Is this possible in any of the other events of the games? Not on your life; they are the real representatives of sport. Perhaps at future contests tip cat, darts, or even pole-sitting (a real test of endurance) will be considered as events worthy of recognition, but bowls, oh dear!—Yours, etc., S. KITTLES. February 6, 1950.
