Four Of Five Rowing Events N.Z. CYCLIST NARROWLY BEATEN (New Zealand Press Association) ' AUCKLAND, February 6. New Zealand won one more title and narrowly conceded two others to Australia in the second day’s events of the Empire Games. New Zealand’s win to-day, the third since the opening of the games, was in the four oar race at Karapiro. The New Zealand eight was beaten by a foot and the New Zealand cyclist, T. R. Carter, was beaten by half a wheel in a spectacular finish in the 100 kilometre road race.

At the Olympic Pool this evening Miss J. Stewart (New Zealand) set a new record of 78.6 seconds in her heat of the 110 yards women’s backstroke.

Australia had another triumphant day, winning four of the five rowing titles, taking three of the first four places in the cycling race, and winning two swimming titles. Of the gold medals awarded in the first two days, Australia has won 11. New Zealand three, Canada and Malaya two each, and England and South Africa one each.
