LABOUR POLICIES IN BRITAIN
CHANCELLOR CLAIMS ACHIEVEMENTS
(R«c- 8 p.m.) LONDON, February 6. Chancellor of the Exchequer (Sir Staffora Cripps), in a political address last night, claimed that the Labour Government had managed to keep up the value of sterling *bove that of the dollar by the policies it had pursued. “The value of the dollar since 1945 in goods which could be purchased in America has fallen by almost 5 per cent, more than the value of the £ in Britain,” he said. Sir Stafford Cripps claimed that the Government had carried through every item of its 1945 programme, and had made more progress in promoting the weilbeing of the ordinary people than had been achieved in any other peace-time period in Britain’s historv. He said there was a very great danger that a reaction might sweep over Europe. One great safeguard against such a sweep was that there should be a Labour Government or a progressive government in Britain.
